  • Section 1: Introduction to Quality Management - Quality is the degree to which a project?s output fulfills its requirements. Quality management consists of quality planning, quality assurance, and quality control. It involves managing the quality of both the project and the resulting product. Project quality management applies to all types of projects. However, product quality measures and specifications will differ for different types of projects. For example, software and construction projects will use different quality control techniques and measures.
  • Section 2: About Project Initiation - The initiation processes determine the nature and scope of the project. If this stage is not performed well, it is unlikely that the project will be successful in meeting the business? needs. The key project controls needed here are an understanding of the business environment and making sure that all necessary controls are incorporated into the project. Any deficiencies should be reported and a recommendation should be made to fix them.
  • Section 3: About Quality Planning - The Quality Planning process involves identifying and defining the quality standards that are essential to successfully completing a project. After defining the quality standards, you must devise appropriate processes to meet the defined requirements. The Quality Planning process includes: ? Understanding, defining, and evaluating customer requirements to ensure that project requirements have been met and the product conforms to the quality standards. ? Implementing continuous processes to improve the quality of the product.

  • Section 4: About Quality Assurance - The Perform Quality Assurance process uses planned, systematic activities to ensure that a project employs all processes needed to meet requirements. Quality assurance (QA) activities are generally handled by a quality assurance department, which provides continuous support to the project team, customer or sponsor, and stakeholders. Quality assurance activities are continuous (applied throughout the project?s life cycle), providing iterative improvements in the quality of all processes. Improvements made through QA lead to greater efficiency, decreased production costs, and higher product quality.
  • Section 5: About Quality Control - You can use the Perform Quality Control process to monitor specific project results to determine whether they comply with the quality standards defined for a project. You can also identify ways to eliminate causes of unsatisfactory results. This process is a management function performed throughout the project life cycle.
  • Section 6: Project Close - Closing includes the formal acceptance of the project and the ending thereof. Administrative activities include the archiving of the files and documenting lessons learned.
